Offered by Curtis Memorial Library and Harpswell Recreation - join us for Scrap Crafts and learn how to reuse and repurpose scraps to make beautiful art, crafts, gifts and treasures!

All classes take place at the Harpswell Town Office on Tuesdays from 10-12 Noon.

ORIGAMI – July 17th 2018
Learn about the art, science and mathematics that allow you to turn flat 2D objects to complex 3D masterpieces. Try out a skill on a small project.
KNOTTED ARTS – August 21th 2018
What do hammocks, macramé, and bracelets have in common? They all can be made with rope. Understand how knotting has been elevated to an art form in numerous cultures. Try out a skill on a small project.
TIN —September 18th 2018
Learn how to make use of your tin cans for a number of projects. Learn the difference between cold connections and hot and the basic tools required to make your metal forming dreams a reality.
TEMARI – October 16th 2018
Learn to make Temari balls from your old socks and scraps of yarn. Try out a skill on a small project.
CONTAINERS — November 20th 2018
Never wrap presents again (unless you want to do so). Instead learn to make reusable containers for all of your gift-giving activities. Try out a skill on a small project.
CARDS —December 18th 2018
Are you interested in learning to make those fancy pop-out cards you can purchase in stores? Interested in giving out coupon cards rather than things over the holidays? Come learn how to use royalty – free templates to make professional paper goods.
FELT – January 15th 2019
Seen needle felted animals, patches, and rugs? Come learn how different types of felt can be made and used. Try out a skill on a small project.
BASKETS —February 19th 2019
Did you realize that you can make baskets out of commonly found man-made and natural materials? Come learn how to store your stuff in hand-made baskets.
PAPER—March 19th 2019
Learn about the wide variety of paper crafts available at CML. Discover our resources to help you make paper flowers, paper mache sculptures, or that impressive pop-up card. Or learn to make your own paper with seeds and decorate it with natural dyes or marblization. Try out a skill on a small project.
EMBROIDERY – April 16th 2019
Learn to embroider using traditional techniques and not-so-traditional projects.
QUILTING – May 14th 2019
Explore different types of quilts and learn how to use up your own scraps to make them. Traditional and modern options will be explored.
MUD OR COB – June 19th 2019
Join us as we build with cob, a classic mix of earth that has been used throughout the world to build structures that have withstood centuries of use. Learn the difference between a number of different earthen projects and try out your new mud skills on a small project.
