HAH Friends Together

Friends Together 2023 is a free four-week program hosted by Harpswell Aging at Home and the Town of Harpswell Recreation and Community Services. Held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to noon at the Selectmen’s Room in the Town Office, 263 Mountain Road, Friends Together is a drop-in center to get together with friends old and new, enjoy some easy movement, hear health and wellness education talks or do a craft. No registration is necessary.

October 19th from 9:30 to 10:30: Chair Yoga (part of each Fall session)
Featuring Janet Alexander, an accomplished yoga instructor, who will focus on yoga designed to support individuals who need a less exertive exercise program. The repetitive sessions will build stamina and help with those fall chores like raking and winter prep.

October 19th from 10:45 to 11:30: File of Life, Safety and Emergency Support Resources
Presenter Mike Drake, Harpswell’s new Fire Administrator, will offer attendees information on safety in the home; File of Life, smoke detector inspections; contact for support and assistance on a wide array of issues in the home, even cleaning chimneys. This is a great opportunity to meet Harpswell’s new Fire Administrator (or whatever the new title is) and learn his department’s plans.
NOTE: October 19th session ends at 11:30 to allow participants time to visit the People Plus Senior Health Expo at the Brunswick Rec Center.

October 26th from 9:30 to 10:30: Chair Yoga

October 26th from 10:45 to 11:45: Seashell ornaments presented by Shannon Larsen. Shannon is a creative mother of four who is skilled at crafting and coaching. She balances her children’s sports activities with craft projects. Living in Harpswell, we all gather those hard-to-resist shells from our beaches. This workshop will help you create beautiful ornaments for gifts, for the holidays, or just to hang in a window.

November 9th from 9:30 to 10:30: Chair Yoga

November 9th from 10:45 to 10:45: Transition of Care
Featuring Amy Berube who has an extensive background in providing guidance and support to individuals and families experiencing a decline in health which causes life changes requiring short or longer-term care outside the homes. She will help to demystify the transition.
Bring a family member or friend who would be a part of your aging support plan. Most importantly, bring your questions.

November 16th from 10:45 to 11:45: Dried Flower Arrangements in a Mug - 
Featuring Garden Club veterans Becky Gallery and Tuckie Westfall. Becky has been gathering mugs for this encore of last year’s popular session just in time for you to make a seasonal arrangement to brighten your Thanksgiving table.
